Mark your calendars for our fourth Church in the Park worship service! Church will be at Scout Shelter in Kirkwood Park.  There is ample parking near to the pavilion and space for the kids to run around. We’ll bless the backpacks of all our students and afterwards enjoy a BBQ lunch. The church provides burgers, dogs, drinks and paper products. It’s potluck for the sides, salad and deserts.  It will be lots of fun, so we hope to see you there.  Wear your t-shirts! Please sign-up in the Gathering Space or by replying to this email to RSVP. Mission in Ministry will be having a back to school drive for the upcoming school year. We would like all of Faith Des Peres Church to participate in supplying supplies to those in need. Please see the list on the back of the bulletin and bring them to church.

Who is Doing What at FDP           

                                                                                                                                                         Tiara Payne, our administrative assistant, will continue to be available on Tuesdays,            Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  You can reach Tiara by calling the church office, 432-8029, or emailing her at adminasst@faithdesperes.org.  Members of the Session also are available to answer your questions and are going to be working with Tiara to provide           communications through the weekly blog and Sunday bulletin. The newly appointed           members of the Session are:

A Message from Pastor Junie

Let us consider an article on July 4th from a recent Presbyterian Outlook Magazine as this is the season.                                                                                                                  Pastor Junie

Everlasting God, our country, like each of us, is a mixed bag of beauty and brutality. Our ideals are lofty, but our actions often reflect our base instincts. When we hold up our history to the light of your justice and your character of loving kindness, we see the stark contrast between your ways and our ways. Grant us the courage and humility to confess our corporate sin, trusting your power and grace to turn even hearts of stone to tablets for your law.

Even as we lament the wrong we have done, we give thanks for the good we experience. We rejoice at the variety of people and cultures that contribute to the richness of this land. We celebrate the freedoms we enjoy that many around the globe do not have the ability to exercise. We remember those who have sacrificed their lives in service to our country and the highest values we seek to embody. We remember those whose names are lost in history, the enslaved men and women whose unpaid labor helped build this nation. We eat the fruit of vineyards they planted but were not allowed to enjoy. For immigrants who contribute in indispensable ways we are grateful. For Native Americans and the newest Americans who make up this part of your creation, we give thanks.

We ask, Almighty God, that you would give us unity, not uniformity. We plead for a common purpose that strives to honor your creation, your character and your will. Quiet the din of anger and division so that we can hear your still, small, voice that calls us to mercy, grace and love. Make us bold to live up the ideals we hold self-evident but too often leave unfulfilled. On this day, and every day, help us to focus on whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — let us not only think on these things, but act on them. Amen.

Friday Foodies, July 6th at 7pm     

Please join a group from Faith Des Peres for Friday Foodies at 7pm, July 6th at Sugo’s Frontenac.  This is a great time to get to know folks better while enjoying a meal together. Please RSVP to Beth Willock at 618-978-0992 if you need childcare so we can make appropriate               arrangements.  A sign up to let us know who to expect for dinner will be available in the gathering space on Sunday, 7/1 or RSVP directly to Beth Willock.

Join PALS for a Trip to Sunken Cities    

Today Faith Des Peres PALS will be going to the St. Louis Art Museum for an afternoon tour of the Sunken Cities: Egypt's Lost Worlds exhibit.  All parents and other church members are invited to join the PALS group for this fascinating excursion.  We will have a pizza lunch in the Gathering Space following worship and will leave the church around 12:15 or 12:30 p.m. to head to the Art Museum.  We should return to the church before 3 p.m.  We will need several drivers to provide carpooling to the Museum.  Any questions and to let us know if you plan to join us and are willing to drive: contact Will Ridley or Barb Abbett.

Annual Congregational Meeting July 15    

Faith Des Peres will conduct its annual meeting on Sunday, July 15 immediately following  worship service.  The purpose of the meeting will be to elect elders for the 2019 -2020 term as well as the 2019-2020 nominating Committee. The budget for the next fiscal year, July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2019, will be presented. Brief updates on other news and activities around Faith Des Peres also will be provided.  Please be sure to attend this meeting to help elect members to serve on the  Session and learn more about the church's budget for next year.
