Dear Faith Des Peres Church Family,
First, don’t forget to set your clocks ahead Saturday night as Daylight Savings Time begins this Sunday, March 10th!
This Sunday is the First Sunday in Lent, 40 days not including Sundays, when as we journey with Jesus toward his crucifixion and are particularly invited to reflect upon how we are living our lives and any changes we would like to make toward bringing our lives back in line with our Christian faith and values.
This year our Lenten journey will include the extinguishing of a candle each week on a beautiful display envisioned and created for us by Danny Mortimer and Steve Heitkamp, which will serve as a reminder that the Light of the world we welcomed at Christmas was temporarily snuffed out on Good Friday.
My sermon message this Sunday will be “Being Led Through the Wilderness” from Luke 4:1-13, which the story of Jesus’ temptations to sin.
Also, on this First Sunday in Lent the Mission and Ministry Center is asking everyone to participate in Presbyterian Disaster Assistance’s “Blue T-shirt Sunday” by wearing your Faith Des Peres T-shirts or something blue on March 10.
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend our “Summit on the Past” on Sunday, March 31 following worship. This will be the first “event” of our transitional journey in preparation to search for your next called and installed pastor. Fliers about this event are now available in the narthex and the Gathering Space.
I also hope you are reading and will plan to join us for our next book study discussion on Michelle Obama’s Becoming following worship Sunday, March 24.
I look forward to seeing you in and around our church as we share in mission and ministry together!
Shalom in Christ Jesus,
Pastor Marilyn
