Church in the Park and Backpack Blessing Sunday, August 14 10 am

Mark your calendars for our second Church in the Park worship service! Church will be at Lions Pavilion in Kirkwood Park; there is ample parking next to the pavilion and a great playground for kids, too. We’ll bless the backpacks of all our students and afterwards enjoy a BBQ lunch.  We’re looking for grill masters!  Let Annie know if you can help with that. The church will provide burgers, hot dogs, drinks and paper goods. Please bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. It will be lots of fun, so we hope to see you there.  Wear your t-shirts! Please sign-up in the Gathering Space or email Yolanda at adminasst@faithdesperes.org to RSVP. Lions Pavilion is where the Greentree book fair is held and is closest to the tennis courts off of Adams Avenue.  There are maps available in the Gathering Space and here online. Thanks!

Cookbooks and Prayer Cards

While cleaning out a closet this week, we came across some old FDP cookbooks from 2002. We also found some Prayer cards that let people know that Faith Des Peres is praying for them. Both are in the Gathering Space and are there for the taking. Help yourself!

Dear Faith Des Peres Community

Dear Members and Friends of Faith Des Peres,

It was great to be back with you all last Sunday after my vacation.  We had a wonderful time at Spofford and all the other places we’ve been this summer, but it’s always good to get home, too.  If you’ve had the opportunity to travel this summer, I hope your time away was been restful.  And if you haven’t traveled, I hope you’ll find time to relax at home.  All of us need a Sabbath every now and then.

This week in worship we’re looking at the subject of prayer.  Prayer is one of the subjects I get asked about the most.  I’ve preached on prayer a few times through the years, but hope to shed new light on the subject . . .especially given what’s going on in our country and around the world.  I hope you’ll be here on Sunday.

In this blog, please take note of Church in the Park on August 14, and this Sunday we’ll have a guest speaker from Circle of Concern at 9 am to talk about their work and how our food donations help.  This is a part of the Living Creation series.

Blessings,

Annie

Update on Bill and Pat Malkemus

Update on Bill and Pat Malkemus
The following was received last week from their daughter, Tricia Hart: My sweet parents celebrated 63 years of marriage yesterday!  They miss their church family at Faith Des Peres but are doing really well up in Door County, Wisconsin. Surrounded by family and friends Bill turned 91 in May and Pat turned 86 this month. They keep busy with their day to day activities and Bill says their secret to a long blessed marriage is to "just enjoy each other!"
