The Centering Prayer Group, a small group of Faith Des Peres members and friends, meets every 3rd Sunday of the month at 5 p.m. in the Gathering Space. Often referred to as Christian meditation, Centering Prayer is a method of contemplative prayer that places emphasis on inner silence. It offers a way to grow in intimacy with God, moving beyond conversation to communion. You are welcome to come!
Choir practice will begin on Wednesday, August 24 at 7:15. We welcome all current choir members as well as anyone who has thought about giving choir a try. Join us as we praise the Lord with music. Everyone is welcome!
It’s not too early to start thinking about PALS for this year. Any adult, and any child or youth in kindergarten through high school, can take part in PALS. PALS is an opportunity for children, youth and adults in the congregation to develop meaningful relationships across generations. It is also an opportunity for children, youth and adults to live into our mission to “reflect and live God’s love, accept and affirm all and inspire passion to do God’s work.” If you were in PALS last year, you can expect to get an email in the next couple of weeks asking if you want to be in PALS again. If you weren’t in PALS but want to be, or have a kindergartener who is now eligible, talk to Barb Abbett or Annie. PALS meets on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 9:30am, September-May. Thanks!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the Shared Ministry Fair in the Gathering Space after worship. This will be a time for you to learn about what ministry opportunities exist and in return to let us know what you’re interested in doing this year at Faith Des Peres. Want to take part in Buddy Packs, or help plan Go Sunday? How about serving as a liturgist, or assisting with communion? These and many more opportunities are available. Each of us is uniquely gifted by God to share our gifts, energy and passions with others to build the kingdom of God, and shared ministry helps us live out the affirmation that God calls all people to ministry. Hope to see you there!
Dear Faith Des Peres Friends,
I’m excited for Church in the Park on Sunday, and I hope you are, too! Last year the weather was chilly but the reception was warm. This year, the weather should be warmer; after all it is August in St. Louis! Wear your FDP t-shirt! If you haven’t yet RSVP’d it’s not too late. Email me at pastor@faithdesperes.org. Church starts at 10, BBQ after church. The playground and parking is nearby. If you’re a student, bring your backpack. We’ll bless them on Sunday.
Finally, read through this email so you know what’s happening around church. With everyone hither and yon this summer it can be hard to keep up with stuff! But school is back, which means we’re settling back into a routine.
See you Sunday!
Annie
Plan on staying on Sunday immediately after our service for fun, fellowship and food. Thank you to everyone bringing food to share. A special thank you to Andy Richter and Keith Weber, our Grill Masters!
This month the lunch gathering will be at McArthur’s on Kirkwood Rd. in Kirkwood.
McArthur’s serves soup, sandwiches and salads with a “walk-up” order bar. This should
speed up the process for everyone coming on his/her lunch hour. Join us!
Disciples Gathering is about to begin, and we want YOU to be a part of it. Disciples Gathering will meet on August 21. We hope to see you there, and we welcome all of our Kindergartners!

Dear Friends of Faith Des Peres,
At our house we’re getting into “back to school” mode. Tommy started band camp this week, Henry is thinking about packing for school, and Julia and Charlotte have “meet the teacher night” next week. It’s hard to believe school is already here. It’s cliché to say but true – where did the summer go?
Back to school also means things are starting to kick-in here. We’ll bless the backpacks of returning students on August 14 at church in the park. Last year the weather was cool but the reception was warm, so I hope you’ll be there. Lions Pavilion is covered, close to parking, and close to an awesome playground. RSVP! We need to know how many burgers and hot dogs to get. (You provide the side dish, salad, or dessert.)
On August 21, Disciples Gathering begins. This is our Sunday School class for kindergarten-6th grade. It takes place during church at 10:00 am (10:30 starting 9/11). PALS kicks-off in September. You can read about that below.
This Sunday, we’re at the Old Church on Geyer Road. We have a new AC unit so it should be cool in there. Parking is on the street. Afterwards, we’ll come back here for our final Living Creation gathering with a potluck. Bring something fresh from you garden or something you would make if you had a garden! It’s informal; no need to RSVP.
And last, think about someone you could invite to church. At this time of year people are looking to get back into a routine, and for some that means church. Who from a class you take, or someone from your kid’s school, can you invite? Everything begins with a simple invitation.
Blessings,
Annie
Mark your calendars for our second Church in the Park worship service! Church will be at Lions Pavilion in Kirkwood Park; there is ample parking next to the pavilion and a great playground for kids, too. We’ll bless the backpacks of all our students and afterwards enjoy a BBQ lunch. We’re looking for grill masters! Let Annie know if you can help with that. It will be lots of fun, so we hope to see you there. Wear your t-shirts! Please sign-up at church Sunday or email Yolanda at adminasst@faithdesperes.org to RSVP. Lions Pavilion is where the Greentree book fair is held and is closest to the tennis courts off of Adams Avenue. There will be maps available Sunday and here online. Thanks!
Disciples Gathering is about to begin, and we want YOU to be a part of it. We’ll kick-off the year with a backpack blessing on August 14, and then Disciples Gathering first meets on August 21. We hope to see you there, and we welcome all of our kindergarteners!

Dear Faith Des Peres Community,
We’re in the dog days of summer! I hope everyone is staying cool in this hot weather.
This Sunday at Living Creation Bible study, we’ll hear from Tommy Epling about his Eagle Scout project to build bee hives for the community garden. If there’s time left after that, Terry will give a quick lesson in canning. If you’re not sure what to do with all your extra zucchini, can it! You can also donate it to Circle of Concern Food Pantry. This Bible Study is very laid back and for all ages, so join us at 9am. On August 7, we’ll worship at the old church, and Living Creation will happen after church at Clayton Road. It’s a garden potluck. Bring something from your garden to share, or if you don’t have a garden bring something from a local garden or farmer’s market. We’ll feast farm-to-table style.
Lastly, don’t forget Church in the Park on August 14. We’ll also eat after that! The church provides the burgers, hotdogs, drinks and paper goods; please bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share. We’ll also bless the backpacks of our returning students. I can’t even believe we’re talking about back to school.
I hope to see you Sunday.
Annie
