A Word from Pastor Junie, GAP Pastor

With Fall comes new beginnings as well as renewal of efforts like feeding the hungry in body and soul.  One of these efforts at Faith Des Peres Presbyterian Church is called “Buddy Packs”.  On the second Sunday of each month we gather downstairs after worship to pack food for kids in the  University City school system to take home with them over the weekend.

This Sunday September 9th however, we first join together after worship in the “Gathering Space” to enjoy a “Time and Talent Ice Cream Social”.   Please join us!  We would love to discover what brings you joy and how you would like to share that gift.  Where might the world’s deepest longings and your deepest gifts meet (Frederick Buechner)?  After ice-cream with time and talents recorded, you are invited to stay and create “Buddy Packs” downstairs under the Sanctuary.

Whether you have worshiped at Faith Des Peres Presbyterian Church for a long time or a few times or not yet, you are welcome.  God loves you as we do, just as you are.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Junie

A Word From Pastor Junie, Gap Pastor

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be yours these last days of August.   There is much to tell you!

This Sunday September 2, we worship at the Old Des Peres Church on North Geyer.  We will not only celebrate the Lord’s Supper but also welcome Ron Robinson, our new Music Director.  At worship end, we go out singing to dedicate the Columbarium.  “Feeding the Flock” will be postponed until September 9th due to logistical issues.   For those unfamiliar with “Feeding the Flock”, it is a wonderful opportunity for our children and youth to learn that Communion feeds bodies and souls by having them gather canned goods for Circle of Concern Food Pantry on Communion Sundays.

September 9th we worship in the Faith Des Peres Presbyterian Church (FDP) sanctuary.  You are invited to stay for a “Time and Talent Ice Cream Social” so we might discover your gifts as well as help us fill “Buddy Packs” after ice cream.  What are Buddy Packs?  These are parcels of food for kids in the University School District  we put together and deliver so each child in need might take food home every weekend to make sure they eat.  We do this often, so come sign up and enjoy feeding the hungry with us!

What a wonderful time to visit or to return after summer time away.   As an open and affirming congregation, everyone is welcome here at FDP!

Blessings,
Junie

A Word from Pastor Junie, Gap Pastor

Holy Spirit Baptism Joy to You!
This Sunday we celebrate our seventh baptism in a little over a year, and we thank God for each one!  As we Presbyterians believe forgiveness is an unearned gift from God – what Martin Luther called “grace” – we practice infant baptism.  Family and congregation together promise God to raise the child in the Christian faith, so each might know God’s love and learn how to follow Jesus Christ as a disciple.  As the child grows in faith, he or she reaches the age when communicant class leads them to know God more deeply and make his or her profession of faith to join the church universal.  Let us rejoice in what the Holy Spirit makes possible through baptism!

As our advisor and counselor and helper, may the Holy Spirit continue to pray for us at levels deeper than words.

Baptismal joy to you,
Pastor Junie
