Dear Faith Des Peres Community:

I was so proud of our confirmands as they made their pubic profession of faith last Sunday.  It isn’t easy to get up in front of a group of people and talk about one’s faith, but they made it look almost effortless.  Thank you to everyone who was present to welcome them as official members of the church.

I also want to thank everyone who turned in pledge cards last Sunday.  If you have not yet turned in your card, please do so by May 30. And, please know that every gift matters.  Your support is critical to the life of the church!

This Sunday we’ll worship at the old church (2250 North Geyer Road).  I hope you can join us for worship on this long holiday weekend.

See you in church!

The church office will be closed on Monday, May 26th, in observance of Memorial Day.

Dare to Dream Celebration of Pledges and Ice Cream Social, June 1

Dare to Dream that on Sunday, June 1st you can look forward to an ICE CREAM SOCIAL after church … and you'll find that the dream will become reality that morning.  June 1st is the day we will celebrate the completion of our Dare to Dream for Today (annual stewardship) and Dare to Dream for Tomorrow (Gathering Space loan reduction) campaigns.  We'll also have cupcakes galore and, for those who don't have a sweet tooth, there will be fresh fruit, cheese and crackers.  Donations of cupcakes will be appreciated.  Email Terry Baker (terrylvb@live.com) to let her know you will bring a dozen cupcakes to church that morning.  The Dare to Dream team will provide the rest and we can all look forward to celebrating our successful campaigns.  Please plan to join us on Sunday, June 1st for worship and fun at the ice cream social!

Flat Jesus is Making Appearances around Town!

Here are photos of Flat Jesus at a Dare to Dream meeting and at church. Where has Flat Jesus accompanied you? The zoo? The pool? The lake? The library? Another city or state? Send photos to Marie in the church office. We’re looking forward to seeing “Where in the World” Jesus is!

No Flowers this Summer?

One has to admit that it adds a welcoming touch when there are fresh flowers in the Sanctuary during worship. We currently have many holes in our summer flower schedule, so please use the sign-up sheet in the Gathering Space, email Marie, or register online. Thank you (in advance) for offering to bring flowers. They will adorn our communion table and your home beautifully!

Dear Faith Des Peres Community:

This Sunday is a great Sunday to come to church!  As we welcome four young people into membership this Sunday, I’m certainly aware of how our history of daring to dream has led us to this point.  Gwen, Tommy, John and Annie will confirm the promises that you made at their baptisms when they join the church.  They are prepared to present their statements of faith.  We will also dedicate our Dare to Dream for Today and Tomorrow pledges.  We have so many blessings to celebrate!

I hope you will make every effort to be here for these two very important occasions in the life of the church: confirmation and dedication of pledges.  See you in church!

It’s going to be a busy day at Faith Des Peres this Sunday, May 18th!

Welcome Confirmands!
This Sunday we’ll welcome our confirmands Gwen Emery, Tommy Epling, John Onken and Annie Wyman into membership at Faith Des Peres. They have been meeting and studying all year in preparation for this Sunday. They will each present a statement of faith during worship.  Afterwards, there will be cake and punch in the Gathering Space.  Join us to welcome them!

Dare to Dream Pledge Dedication
We will also be dedicating our pledges for the Dare to Dream for Today (annual stewardship) and Dare to Dream for Tomorrow (Gathering Space loan reduction) campaigns. If you’ve not done so already, we are asking all FDP members and friends to give prayerful consideration to their pledges and bring them to church this Sunday or mail them to the church office by Wednesday, May 28th.  (Print extra Dare to Dream for Tomorrow pledge cards here; print extra Dare to Dream for Today pledge cards here.) We are pleased to announce that, to date, advance pledges and gifts to the Gathering Space loan reduction campaigns total $207,940.  Stewardship pledges to date total $50,840.  We have long known that Faith Des Peres members and friends are very generous with their time, treasures and talents. This is another demonstration of that and an indication that we give out of a sense of abundance that acknowledges the blessings of God's generosity to us.  Thank you so very much for your gifts and for all you do for Faith Des Peres!

Where in the World is (flat) Jesus?

Ever heard of Flat Stanley, the popular children’s book?  Well, the Worship Arts Committee brings you (drumroll, please) Flat Jesus!  What the heck is Flat Jesus?  It’s a fun project that helps us share our faith and reminds us that Jesus goes with us wherever we go.  It’s also a way to keep us connected over the summer while people are travelling hither and yon.  You’re invited, and encouraged, to take a cut-out of Jesus from church (or print one here), decorate him, take him with you this summer, snap pictures of your Flat Jesus, and send them to FDP at adminasst@faithdesperes.org. Let us know where Jesus is, and we’ll post it here: “Where In the World Is Jesus?” We already have a few photos—let’s add more!

Where will you go with Jesus?  The lake, the beach, the mountains, or the neighborhood pool?  We look forward to hearing about your adventures!

Rally Friday, May 16th!

Press release shared by Tola Olayefun:  Egbe Omo Yoruba of Greater St. Louis and concerned citizens in the St.Louis area will unify in front of the Central Library in Downtown St. Louis, Missouri on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 6pm.

ST. LOUIS WILL HOST BRING BACK OUR GIRLS PEACE RALLY

On April 15, 2014, over 200 girls were abducted from their school in Nigeria by the terrorist group that goes by the name Boko Haram. Our country and many countries around the world are outraged and saddened by this horrific act of terrorism. This inhumane act of terror on innocent children is unthinkable and is unacceptable. There is an outcry in the St. Louis community to rally together as a unified effort to express empathy, sympathy, and support for the families and the young girls who were abducted.

The Egbe Omo Yoruba of Greater St. Louis and concerned citizens have collaborated to host the “Bring Back Our Girls” Peace Rally. The rally will be held in front of the Central Library, located at 1301 Olive Street in downtown St. Louis, on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 6pm-7pm. Supporters should bring signs that state “# Bring Back Our Girls.”  Children, teens, college groups, all organizations and civically-minded people are encouraged to attend and stand unified on this issue.

Please forward this blog post to friends and concerned citizens in the St. Louis area in solidarity with the ongoing campaign to bring the abducted Nigerian girls back home. This concerns everyone – make it your business to speak against terrorism! Come out and join us!

Dear Faith Des Peres Community:

Last night we had our first Discussing the Dream gathering at the Davis’ home.  It was a great night where people shared what brought them to Faith Des Peres, what they like about the church, and what they dream for the future of the church.  I encourage you to attend one of the upcoming gatherings, noted below, and share your dreams for the church.

We have two big celebrations coming up quickly.  On May 18th we’ll accept our four confirmands into membership and dedicate our Dare to Dream pledges.  Please be here for this very special day!  And on June 1 we’ll celebrate our Dare to Dream campaigns.  More information to come!

See you in church!

Prayers for Safe Return

Dear friends at Faith Des Peres Church,

I have an exciting opportunity to be a part of a mission trip that is through the Czech Symphony Project. I will join 31 singers, adults and students alike, from Missouri Baptist Choral Society (of which I am a member) and Harvest Bible Chapel in Chesterfield. We will be touring Vienna and the Czech Republic.

The Czech Symphony Project is a non-denominational Christian ministry that glorifies God by facilitating local and international worship evangelism. We hope to exemplify on Psalm 57:9: “I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations.”

We will be singing nice arrangements of Amazing Grace, gospel tunes Amen and Jesus on the MainlineDown In The River To Pray, a little bluegrass in I Will Lift My Weary Eyes and of course, we must sing Rogers and Hammerstein On Broadway.

We have a number of concerts and appearances lined up:

  • Friday, May 2, at the personal invitation of the Mayor of the 8th District of Prague
  • Saturday, May 3, we will sing and “promote” our concert on the streets of Vienna
  • Sunday, May 4, 5 p.m. at Harvest Metanoia Vienna (singing in the main worship service)
  • In North-East Czech Republic
    • In Hradec Kralove at the 50th Anniversary Concert of the LSU Strzina Music School
    • In Litomysl (birth town of Bedrich Smetana) – with the STO Jazz group and Zirafas Accordion Orchestra (lots of fun!)
  • Last concert on May 8, 6 pm, in Pardubice at the historic Pardubice Castle – with the boys’ choir, Bonifantes

Please pray that the Lord will bless this trip, grant us safe travels and that we will lift Him up in music and singing as we reach out to others.

Dear Faith Des Peres Community:

Last week we had a successful “Go!" Sunday.  My heartfelt thanks go out to the Mission and Ministry Committee for organizing the day.  Going out to serve others in the name of Christ is an appropriate way to worship on the 2nd Sunday of Easter!

On this 3rd Sunday of Easter we’ll kick-off our Dare to Dream campaigns.  I hope you’ll be here for this important time in the life of the church and to hear the powerful testimony of your fellow church members about what the church means to them.

Lastly, I hope you’ll mark your calendars for May 18.  We’ll dedicate our pledges that day AND receive four confirmands into membership.  Gwen Emery, Tommy Epling, John Onken and Annie Wyman have been working hard since January preparing for this day. I hope you’ll be here to celebrate with them.

See you Sunday.
