Dear Faith Des Peres Friends,

It's hard for me to believe my last Sunday with you is this Sunday. I'm a jumble of emotions: anxious, excited, sad, nervous, hopeful. We've been through so much these past 17 years. I'm not sure I have the words to adequately sum them up in my final sermon. But with the Spirit's help, I'll do my best. Of course, I've spent time thinking about what I want to say, and the story I keep going back to (or the Spirit keeps leading me to), is the one I preached on in my first sermon at Faith Des Peres, the story about Ezekiel and the valley of the dry bones. It's a fitting bookend, I think, to my final Sunday because it's all about hope.

I do hope you'll come on Sunday. Your presence would mean so much to me. And so, I will end this final letter as I have ended most of my letters to you, saying "I hope to see you Sunday".

Many Blessings,

Annie

Dear Faith Des Peres Community,

I can hardly believe I only have two more Sundays with you. I've thought a lot about what I want to say with only two sermons left and what scriptures speak to the thoughts I want to convey. This Sunday, I'm circling back to a passage that is familiar -- the story about Jesus walking on water. So often, this story is interpreted like this: like Peter, we're invited to step out of the boat where Jesus calls us to have courage and leave our safety nets behind. It's a good message, and the last time I preached on this passage I said just that! But on Sunday my message to you is the exact opposite: stay in the boat. Now is not the time to jump overboard, let others do the paddling for you, or try to walk on water. Now is the time to stay in the boat.

If you weren't at church last Sunday, you missed a wonderful cantata by the choir. Thank you to the choir members and Jeff White and Laura Rakestraw for a wonderful worship service!

I hope I'll see you all this Sunday!

Blessings,

Annie

Looking Ahead to May

For the next two weeks (April 22 and April 29) we will continue to celebrate Annie's ministry with Faith Des Peres.  After we say our fond farewells and best wishes to Annie and the fabulous Epling family on the last Sunday in April, we will welcome visiting clergy to our weekly worship services as we start our journey in the next chapter in the life at FDP.  Please be sure to join us on a regular basis on Sunday mornings in May and throughout the summer.

Sunday, May 6 -- The Rev. Dr. Craig Howard, transitional presbytery leader, will be our guest minister.  Rev. Howard will also join us in the Gathering Space after worship for a Q&A roundtable and light lunch, when he will answer our questions and talk with us about the process of calling a new pastor for Faith Des Peres.

Sunday, May 13 --  The Rev. Miriam Foltz, pastor of UKirk - St. Louis, will lead us in worship.  Rev. Foltz (whom we have all come to know as Miriam) has been with us on various occasions and is always welcome at FDP.

Sunday, May 20 -- The Rev. Vanessa Hawkins, designated associate presbytery leader, will be our minister for worship service.  Rev. Hawkins came to the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy earlier this year and we look forward to having her with us.

Sunday, May 27 -- More information to come about this holiday weekend in the next week or two.

Thank You

Our grateful acknowledgement goes to Bud Schuller, father of Clarissa Schuller-Meyer, for a special donation. This allowed us to upgrade the childrens' area. Stop by to see the "New, Improved" Nursery.

We would also like to thank Ben and Ashley Laws and Beth Willock (with family) for completing the nursery updates. Ben assembled our shelving and Beth added the final touches.

With appreciation,

The Faith Formation Team
